Step 1

Initial Appointment

At your first appointment, you and you child will meet with Dr. DeShazo to discuss your child’s background and specific challenges. During this one hour appointment, she will discuss how these habits or behaviors are affecting their life at home, at school, and other setings.  After our interview and review of their questionnares, we will discuss your child’s diagnosis. Then you, your child, and Dr. DeShazo will work together to develop the most appropriate treatment approach for your child.

Dr. DeShazo keeps up with the latest research in her field, but understands that every child is unique and that there is no “cookie cutter” treatment plan that is appropriate for everyone. We focus on the specific needs for your child so that we can have the most success.

You will often be asked to complete online questionnaires or forms prior to your child’s vist. These will be sent to you via your child’s patient portal that was set up when you made your child’s appointment. We ask that you (or your child if appropriate) complete them at least 48 hours before their appointment so that Dr. DeShazo can thouroughly review them before your child’s visit.

Step 2

Follow up appointments

Your child will have periodic follow up appointments to review what is working and adapt or refine the treatment plan as needed. Timing of follow up appointments will depend on where your child is in their treatment plan.

After initial appointment, depending on what treatment plan has been started, their first follow-up appointment may be as soon as 1-2 weeks after to assess progress and identify any side effects. Identifying problems early allows us to make changes early if needed.

After your child is doing well on their treatment plan, they will be seen every 3 months. There is no “cure” for most mental health conditions, so these periodic followup appointments are crucial to continue to assess your child’s treatment response.
